Behind prison bars \ Syria
A part of Syria has been controlled by armed opposition groups due to the ongoing civil war since 2011. Thousands of criminals have been imprisoned in Azaz district of Aleppo – in north Syria - where is under control of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). Majority of the prisoners are ISIS militants, their spouses and children. Children and spouses of the militants, of whom were killed or captured as ISIS militants, are locked in wards to avoid them to join the terrorist organization. The number of prisoners is four times higher than the prison’s capacity, which lacks of wards. February 24, 2018
